Feature discovery survey questions
Find out whether people know a feature exists, where they expect to find it, and what stops them from trying it.
- Who to ask
- Active users, including people who have never used the feature.
- When to ask
- After a feature has been available long enough for users to encounter it.
Questions to adapt
- Before today, did you know this feature existed?
- Where would you look for it?
- What task would you expect it to help with?
- Have you tried it?
- What stopped you from using it again?
Use the answers
Separate awareness, first-use, and repeat-use problems. Fix navigation for discovery gaps; investigate the experience itself when people try the feature but stop. Compare answers with usage records where available.
Keep the research useful
Describing the feature before asking about awareness changes the answer. Ask unaided discovery questions first.
Collect the feedback in Formkii
Start a short survey with a clear introduction and a consistent reference period. Use choice questions where you need comparable categories and open text where the explanation matters. Preview the survey with someone who understands the task, then share the published link with the relevant participants. Review written answers alongside response counts, and export to CSV if you need to group themes in a spreadsheet.
