Product research
Permission settings usability questions
Test whether administrators understand who can view, edit, or share work before changing access settings in a live workspace.
- Who to ask
- People responsible for configuring access in your product.
- When to ask
- In a test workspace using hypothetical roles and sample records.
Questions to adapt
- Who do you think can view this item?
- Who can change it?
- What would this sharing option allow?
- How would you remove access?
- Which label or setting is unclear?
Use the answers
Compare predicted access with the actual permissions model. Treat misunderstanding as a usability problem and improve role descriptions, previews, or confirmation details before testing again.
Keep the research useful
Run the exercise with test data. A research task should not require changing permissions on sensitive live records.
Collect the feedback in Formkii
Start a short survey with a clear introduction and a consistent reference period. Use choice questions where you need comparable categories and open text where the explanation matters. Preview the survey with someone who understands the task, then share the published link with the relevant participants. Review written answers alongside response counts, and export to CSV if you need to group themes in a spreadsheet.
